Fitness myths debunked!
There are so many fitness and weight loss myths and misconceptions that drive us crazy down here at Empowered Fitness! Today we’re going to look into another old myth and put it to rest so you don’t fall for the many fitness gimmicks and fads.
A very common myth that we hear about often is the idea that you must focus on cardio over strength training for fat loss. While cardiovascular activity is important and is fantastic for your health and can certainly aid in fat loss, it’s generally not the fastest way. If you find yourself only doing cardio you’ll find yourself missing out on the benefits of strength training.
Just focusing on cardio can be boring and may cause you to burn fewer calories overall. Strength training builds lean muscle mass, which both increases your metabolism and decreases fat. So the more muscle you build, the more calories you burn on a day-to-day basis. Maximize weight-loss benefits by incorporating up to 3-4 days a week of resistance-based exercise such as weight lifting.
Weight lifting and resistance based exercise aren’t just about bulking up and building muscle mass. The benefits include improved posture, better sleep, increased bone density, maintaining weight loss and boosting metabolism among so many other benefits.
