Fitness and health myths debunked!

There are so many fitness and weight loss myths and misconceptions that drive us crazy down here at Empowered Fitness! Today we’re going to look into another myth and put it to rest so you don’t fall for the many health gimmicks and fads.

Many believe that banishing carbs is the best way to slim down, tone up and feel your best. But we need to think first about where carbs come into play for our overall health. It’s very common nowadays for people to say “I don’t eat carbs” or “I’m on a low carb diet.”

Most of the carbohydrates that people eat are processed foods made with white flour and added sugar. These foods are literally engineered to make you overeat them. They are often packed with calories, making it easy to go over your daily calorie needs.
Smart carbs, on the other hand, are less calorie dense and less likely to make you overeat; they will keep you fuller for longer. They are minimally processed, high-quality foods, rich in fiber and nutrients

Start by looking at your current way of eating and see where you can swaps. For example, have oats for breakfast instead of cereal and have a whole orange instead of juice. If you eat sandwiches for lunch, change to whole wheat bread (or better still, why not have a salad!)

Low carb diets do have a place in some peoples diets where they can be very effective. We are not saying that low carb diets can’t or wont work for you. Instead we’re saying it’s more complex than that and you can get great results while still enjoying carbohydrates.
